Obazda – the bavarian mash-mess
Usually in spring when days get warmer Bavarians swarm to the beergardens to enjoy the bavarian signature cheese Obazda and being from Munich of course one of those people is me. But since life right now is a little different Gustav and I want to give you a home recipe and repost a memory from 2018 where we went to Munich, capital of Bavaria and herewith of the region the Obazda was granted PGI certification in 2015.
Oaxaca cheese – (not) a mexican traveller
Just a few days ago Gustav and presented a cheese from Georgia that came to us via secret paths. But unfortunately not all of our cheese messengers are equally successful and sometimes cheeses get confiscated – or, as we think, rapidly eaten up – by overly correct border controls.
Squacquerone di Romagna – time to ooze!
pit stop @ the Cheese Board Collective
Do you know the feeling when a travel or excursion is proposed to you and the first thought that strikes your head is – “will there be cheese?”
Since my travel in question involved assisting my partner´s move from Berkeley to Vienna, the answer was on the table right away.
I finally got to visit the famous Berkeley Cheese Board!
Voitsberg – an all styrian cheese festival
This year the town of Voitsberg in Styria, for the 16th time, hosted the Styrian “milk-street festival” in the setting of the town´s medieval castle ruins and Gustav and I made sure to leave Vienna by the set of dawn so not to miss a minute.
Formaggio in Villa – what a feast!
Gustav and I were lucky enough to make it to this year’s “Formaggio in Villa” that took place over the 1st of May weekend and hosted the pre-elimination contest to the Italian cheese awards.
The concept of the event is an attractor to cheese-lovers as well as salumi-admirers and foodies of almost all kinds. – Find a beautiftul villa and pack it up with first-class producers from Italy.
meeting DIDA – Taiwan´s cheese alchimists
As a cheese lover, before travelling you naturally think about what places you could add to your itinerary that involve cheese, so much so that strategizing your way through a new city by making your co-travelers think you passed their desired destination by fortunate accident can become quite a tricky task.
Strachi..WHAT? STRACHITUNT!
The other week, Gustav and I had the opportunity to drive down to Italy for a long weekend.
My office was one of the winners of the 2018 Leonardo da Vinci Prize, which was awarded in Florence; so we took the opportunity to make a little detour via beautiful Piemonte.
cheese-up Britain!
I am a lucky duck – last weekend I got to go to England!
A friend of mine had a talk in Milton Keynes and asked me to join her. Knowing that Britain is full of extraordinary cheeses and cheesemongers, and also because it´s always worth a visit, I of course said yes.
Milton Keynes I can tell you is not a cheese lover’s paradise, so it was crystal clear that I had to look elsewhere for my friends.
