Instacheese behind the scenes:
As some of you already know *Caseifici agricoli* initiated the “open farm days”, where dairy farms open their doors to visitors to let them taste their cheeses and tell their stories of their daily lifes.
The idea behind it is to let people know about the dairy cultural heritage of farms and landscapes and to spread the word of a sustainable, gastronomic and cultural tourism.
This all with the aim of helping dairy farms in their daily battle of survival as well as keeping cultural heritage alive and help it evolve to even higher levels.
Besides the annual open house days (this year on September 12th and 13th ) caseifici agricoli recently started a live Instagram meet-up with farmers, cheese makers, shop owners and other professionals in the field.
So, if you know some Italian tune in!
Every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9pm
Due to current events the festival was moved to October 2020
Formaggi&Sorrisi – Cremona, Italy
This year for the first time ever the Cheese and Friends festival, Formaggi&Sorrisi (Cheese and Smile) will take place in Cremona, Lombardy, Italy.
The festival is organized by SGP Events and adresses professionals as well as us cheese lovers of any age. On the second weekend of April the old arcades of Cremona will be filled up to the top with lombard cheeses and other delicacies.
On the serving platter – shows, tastings and all kinds of other events dedicated to the art of dairy, all of which will peak in the award ceremony for the Oscar of the Cheese.
Gustav says this event already made it in his top of the top list!
Sagra della Ricotta e del Formaggio – Vizzini, Italy
The Sicilian Sagra della Ricotta e del Formaggio has an almost 5 decade long tradition and is also known as the Feast of Flavors and Knowledge.
The village of Vizzini, birthplace of the writer Giovanni Verga hosts this event of folklore, gastronomy and – most important – cheese.
The other week, Gustav and I had the opportunity to drive down to Italy for a long weekend.
My office was one of the winners of the 2018 Leonardo da Vinci Prize, which was awarded in Florence; so we took the opportunity to make a little detour via beautiful Piemonte.
I am a lucky duck – last weekend I got to go to England!
A friend of mine had a talk in Milton Keynes and asked me to join her. Knowing that Britain is full of extraordinary cheeses and cheesemongers, and also because it´s always worth a visit, I of course said yes.
Milton Keynes I can tell you is not a cheese lover’s paradise, so it was crystal clear that I had to look elsewhere for my friends.
