This year for the first time ever the Cheese and Friends festival, Formaggi & Sorrisi  (Cheese and Smile) will take place in Cremona, Lombardy, Italy.

The festival is organized by SGP Events and reaches out to professionals as well as cheese lovers of any age. The old arcades of Cremona will be filled up to the top with Lombard cheeses and other delicacies.

On the serving platter – shows, tastings and all kinds of other events dedicated to the art of dairy, all of which will peak in the award ceremony for the Oscar of the Cheese.

Gustav says this event already made it in his top of the top list!

Cibus, the International Food Exhibition in Parma goes into it´s 22ndyear!

It´s the most important fair dedicated to the Italian agri- food sector where institutions, companies and professionals of the sector meet to discuss and create future strategies for the food sector.

The exhibition is meant to deepen and found commercial relationships but if you are a little producer or just one step afar it is definitely the place to be the last week in March!

Festival del SILTER D.O.P – Temù, Italy

The * Festival del SILTER D.O.P *  goes into its 6th round!

+Silter+ is a unique raw cow´s milk cheese of an inimitable taste, that takes its name from the room in the malga that was used for maturing the wheels.
The event starts Thursday the 7th of December and will easily carry you through the whole weekend.

There will be guided tastings, music and the crowning of the best Silter of the year.

Italian Cheese Awards – Ancona, Italy

Each year Italy crowns its best cheeses at the Italian Cheese Awards and this year the event will take place on November 19th in Ancona!

After the April pre-selection round at Formaggio in Villa, this year 34 cheeses spread out over 10 categories made it into the finale. 

The award evening promises a buffet of all the cheeses in the race and is  open to the public.

Toma here, Toma there – Toma, Toma everywhere

When traveling through northern Italy and its mountainous regions of the Piedmont and Aosta Valley one type of cheese that will often cross your path is a “Toma”.

It´s a mountainous pal – pressed, and often made from skimmed or partially skimmed milk – who finds his relatives in the French and Swiss “Tomme” who are lurking on the other side of the mountain peaks.

This year on the first fully October weekend the dairies dedicated to the production of world famous Parmigiano Reggiano invite for 2 days of passion, tastings and looking behind the scenes.

Other than the Caseifici Open Day which takes place in all over Italy and is not dedicated to a specific cheese, the festival of the open cheese dairies is limited to the area of Emilia Romagna and to its crowned cheese; Parmigiano Reggiano

The dairies are located in the provinces of Bologna, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena and Mantova and can be visited on guided tours.

Just visit the official website and book your ticket to stop by at one (or more) of the 50 participating dairies!

Robiola di Roccaverano DOP -don´t mess with Rocky Balboa

With cheese it is sometimes like with good, old friends. You haven’t seen them in forever and all of a sudden your paths cross and it seems like no time has passed. You still can laugh and talk all night and realize how much you’ve missed each other.
Kind of a similar thing happened to us with today’s guest. Long time- no see, and boom!;
Ran into him and immediately fell in love again. *Robiola di Roccaverano DOP* from the Piedmont.

RERUN Cheese 2019 – Italy’s holy grail for cheese lovers!

Not everyone of us can go to *Cheese* this year. So for those who have to stay at home, here some memories of cheese 2019. Some things I am sure have changed, others are still the same.
The festival this year will be even bigger with even more interesting events, talks, tastings and makers and mongers to meet.

It´s the 22nd anniversary of Gemona’s cheese festival! Go there for a day trip from Udine or spend the night in the little Friulian village.

For 3 days the town ´’s focus lies on cheese and its friends – Wine, beer, bread- you name it, they have it!
