Thüringer Käsemarkt – Hohenfelden, Germany
Cheesemarkets as cheeses themselves come in all sizes.
This one is a tiny one, but if you are in the area I am positive that it´s worth the stop!
Cheesemarkets as cheeses themselves come in all sizes.
Every other year the almost 800 year old town of Nieheim organizes the “Deutscher Kaesemarkt”, where about 60 producers from all over Germany as well as mongers from Austria, Italy and France will present their treasures to a curious crowd.
This year the town expects as many as 60.000! visitors who will stroll through the little streets of Nieheim in North Rhine-Westphalia with a cheesy smile on their faces.
Nieheim, by the way, is home to the “german museum of cheese” which, when in town, you should definitely stop by.

Ok, to be honest – this *Mercato di Stegona* is not entirely built around cheese, but when we read about it we thought we do have to share its existence with you.
*Mercato di Stegona* is the biggest market of the year in South Tyrol and has a stone-old tradition.
In former times people from all over the area came to buy what they would need to get through the upcoming fierce winter and even today you can find almost everything. More than 300 vendors offer all kinds of goods from tractors to cows and from cheeses to speck and everything else you can imagine to need at some point.
We have never been there but *Mercato di Stegona* sounds more than worth the visit.
Nidwaldner Alpchäs Märcht – Beckenried in Canton Nidwalden sets the frame for this anual Swiss Cheese event.
Every year on the second weekend in November people come together for a weekend of Alpkäs tasting and Fondue fun.
Gustav says that the market takes place near the shore of beautiful Vierwaldstätter See (lake Lucerne) is no harm.
Obwaldner Käsemarkt is one of Switzerland’s oldest “Alpkäse” markets and even though Gustav and I haven’t made it there yet – we are more than sure it’s worth to mark your calendar!
Note: Due to Covid-19 in the past many events were moved or had to be canceled. Make sure to always check official sites before booking tickets or heading to an event.

Today about 190 farms cover an area of 13 villages and are home to many, many ewes, cows and goats – don’t miss out on this great event. The cheeses – I promise – are incredibly delicous!
